About Us
Who we are and a peek behind the scenes
Sourcing, Roasting, and Sharing Exceptional Coffee
Broadsheet Coffee Roasters was founded in 2017 in Cambridge, MA with the simple goal of sharing our love of coffee with the community. Working with conscientious and caring producers and importers, we source exceptional coffees from around the world that range from comforting to experimental and eye-opening.
Our aim with each coffee is to accentuate sweetness, balance, and ease of brewing while highlighting unique and outstanding flavors. We continually hone our roasting and quality control skills via extensive national roasting and cupping competition, in which we have often excelled. All of our coffees are roasted in a Loring S-35 Kestrel, destoned, color-sorted (with a Sovda Pearl Mini), and quality controlled in our state-of-the-art Somerville, MA roasting and training facility.
Our Coffee Philosophy
At Broadsheet Coffee Roasters, our journey begins with a commitment to exceptional quality as well as responsible sourcing.
We work closely with conscientious producers, exporters and importers who also pursue sustainable farming practices, allowing us to bring to our community coffees that are high-quality, distinctive and thoughtfully sourced. From comforting blends to exciting experimental microlots, each coffee is carefully chosen to reflect the unique flavors and cultural heritage of its origin. Our goal is simple: to create an experience that resonates with all coffee lovers while supporting sustainable practices.
Unique Coffee Experience
Our roasting and quality control processes are designed to highlight each coffee’s unique flavors and present consistently beautiful drinks.
Our job as roasters is to let the intrinsic beauty of our coffees shine through as faithfully and consistently as possible. Green coffee changes subtly over time and daily variations in atmospheric conditions all impact the way the coffee behaves in the roaster. We thus cup (qualitatively assess) every single roast batch every single roast day, obsess over our roasting curves, and review our cupping notes and data daily. We continuously update our roasting time-temperature-airflow "recipes" to keep our coffees sparkling.
Team Culture
We are a small, highly collaborative team committed to hard work, respect, teamwork and a shared love for the craft.
As our roastery is located only minutes away from our cafe, staff have the opportunity to work at both locations and deepen their knowledge of coffee and the industry, fostering a culture of continuous learning, growth and expertise. Almost every single team member at Broadsheet started as a barista in our cafe and worked their way up. Through this dedication, we aim to cultivate not only great coffee but a great coffee culture.
